Ed_Haynes Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 But the one in the second link? Is it right or wrong? The colors are right for the 1900-1939 one and on Liverpool medals they hve Persian awards with french style rosettes.... so.... the ribbon in the second post (with the envelope) could technically be corect?Meaning the Frenchi and the Persian are almost same, same except for the width of the colors?A silly question... but has anyone seen rosettes with black backing cloth like these? Not sure we know enough about Guy's image to say much of anything. That we have an image of a rosetted ribbon and an envelope from an unknown source doesn't give us much of a "data point". Admittedly, we need to know much more about Iranian awards than we do at present, but the chances of archival access are so close to zero as to not matter. But I think this unofficial Frenchy thing is what we are seeing anyway.
Guest Rick Research Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Actually, the metal mounting is IDENTICAL to a Vietnamese made "1960" Campaign Medal ribbon that I got back 40 years ago this year. Same weird double springy pin and construction:Is that a "French" style as well as Vietnamese?
Ed_Haynes Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Thanks, Rick, I knew I had seen that style somewhere and couldn't place it. I suspect that any "Vietnamese" ribbon style is actually an exported colonial "French" style.
g_deploige Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 (edited) Nice discutionThe link from the envelope is the ribbon that belonged to king Albert I Of Belgium, who recieved the Order of the crown from the Chah of Persia in 1926 by the state visite of the Chah of Persia to Belgium http://www.klm-mra.be/klm-new/engels/colle...e_de_perse.htmlhere the link with the other envelopeshttp://www.klm-mra.be/klm-new/engels/colle...bert/index.htmlI think the link to the french non-official order is the correct one for the ribbon from the first post. This order exist olso in different classes knight, officer, compmander, etc... Edited January 5, 2007 by g_deploige

Thanks for following up!
webr55 Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 Great discussion, and thanks very much for the solution! Chris
