Chris Boonzaier Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 .... on the reverse of British medals.....Even if one collects brit medals with the intention of researching them.... one often forgets the detail on these awards....
Ed_Haynes Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 So true, Chris, so true. (Although this is actually the obverse, we've been taught to see it as the reverse.)
Ed_Haynes Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 And even the stuff that is geographically laughable . . .
Ed_Haynes Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 (Though the obverse here is nicer . . . though also geographically fantastical.)
Ed_Haynes Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Even when you try not to remember what the medal represents . . .
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 Damn... I wanted to post the Punjab one!!! It is a classic.
Ed_Haynes Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 (edited) Damn... I wanted to post the Punjab one!!! It is a classic.Yes. Though the specimen I posted is almost in TOO NICE condition to scan properly. Too reflective.(Actually have my "babies" home for "sorting" -- playing with -- this weekend .) Ed_Haynes Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Even that later stuff, conjuring phoney brotherhood.
deptfordboy Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 A later medal but I still find it a very evocative scene...Gilbert
Michael Johnson Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 (edited) . . . or.I make it ten bodies jammed in there! Edited January 15, 2007 by Michael Johnson
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 I make it ten bodies jammed in there!10 seems to be right.
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 This thread is too good to die!!! Lets see more !!!
Tony Farrell Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 One of my favourite reverse designs: British South Africa Company's Medal - Rhodesia 1896.
Tony Farrell Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 This also has to be a strong contender: IGS54. this particular example with a Pegu clasp.
Tony Farrell Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Another particularly attractive design: East & Central Africa.
Tony Farrell Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 I don't know whether the design of the IGS08's reverse of the fortress at Jamrud was influenced by the Tibet, but there are similarities on a theme. It's a pretty 'old school' approach (harking back to early company medals) that never resurfaced on any other issues.
Tony Farrell Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Another beautiful reverse design not done justice by this image: Natal Rebellion 1906.
Tony Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 I don't have anything as exotic as those shown so far but here goes.Mercantile Marine - if you look closely, you can see a U-Boot
Tony Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 (edited) My only Victorian medalA medal for the brave fighters of the Empire in a war against upstart farmers who thought, for some unknown reason, they were being oppressed Edited July 2, 2007 by Tony
