    Silber marked EK1 thought

    Recommended Posts

I know we usually associate the mark "SILBER" on an EK1 with Bavarian makers... but here's a twist. I have a screw-back EK1, screw disc and cross both marked Silber. But the "keeper" disc bears an asterik, that I would normally associate with Austria!!

    :speechless1:

This mark was normally used on Austrian pieces to signify a base metal, as opposed to the usual silver, or other precious metal. Clearly the set has been together for forever....

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hello

Perhaps is just one of those things. Cross and plate are in silver and for whatever reason the actual screwdisc is of some other metal. Maybe it was silvered or silver plated at some point but this has worn off. I have seen screwbacks with silvered or silver plated screwdiscs, (the cross being in real silver), on which the underlying metal is brass or some other type.

    Just my thoughts.
