Bob Hunter Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 (edited) I happened on this this past weekend. It has a nimber "1" on the underside of the pin near the hinge.Feel free to speculate on the meaning of and purpose for the inscription, "Serva Jugum." Edited July 14, 2005 by Bob Hunter
Glenn R Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Typical S&W hinge. No idea on the inscription though.
George Stimson Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I don't know about the inscription either, but I have two "S-W" EK 1s. One has a "1" on the underside of the pin near the hinge, and the other has a "3" in that same spot.
Bob Hunter Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 Welcome, George! Nice to see you here.I can send better pictures if you'll send me your email. It's a handsome piece.
Bob Hunter Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 I recently learned that "Serva Jugum" can be translated as "Keeper of the Yoke."It is the motto of the Kay family in Scotland but what, if any, connection this may have to the cross is unknown. Could it possibly be a metaphor calling for higher service?Rick, any input here??
Stogieman Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Perhaps a captured piece, engraved after the fact??
