Award document for silver merit medal Lippe-Detmold

    Recommended Posts

    Hello gents,

I?ll show you a very nice document for the

    silver merit medal Lippe-Detmold

    It?s for the hoboist (=musician) Gustav W?he

(from the Inf. Reg. No. 55 = 6.Westfaelisches Inf.Reg. B?low von Dennewitz, the only regiment Lippe-Detmold had)

W?he awarded this medal on June, 20th in 1905.

The document was originally signed by F?rst Leopold IV. of Lippe-Detmold. :speechless1:

The award was spent 593 times.

I hope you enjoy it like me...

    Greetings

    Solomon

    Solomon,

Very, very nice! I noticed on page 2 of the statues, after the Furst's printed name, it says Freiherr von Richtofen. Is that the same family as the famous WW1 air ace?

Yes, I?m sure it is :-)

By the way, Manfred von Richthofen also got a reward from Lippe-Detmold.

I showed a copy of the original signed receipt, I found in the archive of Detmold.

The shown document is only one of a (almost) complete group of documents...I?ll show you the rest, when I?ve collected all the information.

    Greetings

If I might ask a (nearly) off topic question...about Manfred von Richthofen:

Is there any record of him ever receiving the Observer's Badge?

He was an observer (and participated in bombing missions) before he

became a pilot, but I have never seen a reference or a photo of him

    with the observer badge.

He don?t listed it in 1917, so I?m quite sure he didn?t award it.

Every other award he got till October, 23th in 1917 he listed.

    Greetings

And here's the roll entry, number 248, made on 30 May 1905, noting that he was born 15 January 1868 in Coburg, Kreis Jerichow I:

I love Lippe's rolls! And luckily, complete data like this BEGAN in 1905. Beautiful penmanship... but sooooooooooooooooo mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny to TYPE!
