Gordon Craig Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Gents,Another find from a flea market cruise last Saturday. While I had several Rakoci era uniforms I did not have a belt and cross strap for one of these uniforms. Thanks to Charles' eagle eye I was able to add one to my collection. Here is a front view of a uniform with the belts in place. The waist belt is put on first. Then the cross strap is slide under the shoulderboard and buckled on the chest. Not visible in this photo are the two D rings on the left hand side for the sword hanger. The belt has a stamp on the end with the holes but it is not readable.Regards,Gordon
hunyadi Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Very nice - now we just need to find you a pistol holster...and I need to get a manequin so I can put one up like that!
Gordon Craig Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 Charles,Ok by me. A nice pistol holster and a really nice sword, complete with the knot, would look just great!Regards,Godon
hunyadi Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Its interesting to see the rings for the sword hanger - the only swords that I have ever heard of (and only once BTW) was that for pre 1956 General Dress Uniforms. However - for the River Flotilla the 1950 regulations showed a pistol beign hung from "dagger hangers" - but its also a different style belt - Not the Same Brown type. Do we have a photo of the sword in wear?
Gordon Craig Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Charles,I can now post a picture of the sword in wear on this type of belt. It is not an army officer but a police officer on parade. The belt and cross strap are the same. It is from a book we both have "MAYGARORSZG 1945-1960". I can not post a page number as there are none in the book but it is very close to the back of the book.Regards,Gordon
hunyadi Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Interesting. Its hard to place the period of the photo as the tunic could eitehr be a M45 or the parade version of the M57... The police having sabres are intersting, even today the mounted police who patrol the city park are still armed with sabres while on patrol.
