Jef Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 It's only marked "silver" in raised letters next to the catch.Hello Peter,In my book : Military " Sweetheart" Brooches, written by K.W. Jarmin I saw a brooch almost similar to yours. When I look to info about n? 114 I can read: Silver. Pilots Wings. Translucent Enamelling. There are various types of Pilots Wings in Silver and normal enamelling. Also in Basemetal and enamel. The approx. value is 12? ( but I have to add, this publication is from 1981) With kind regards from Flanders,Jef
Gerd Becker Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) Peter, you should ask Dave B. he knows a lot about these and as far as i know, he collects sweetheart wings.I have seen at least one similar one like yours and its one of the nice ones Gerd Edited May 16, 2007 by Gerd Becker
Dave B Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Yup it's an RAF sweetheart brooch circa WWII Most are only marked sterling or silver, it's quite rare to find a hallmarked one.As Kev says, these were given by RAF bods to their wives, girlfriends, mothers.Yep I do collect 'em!Yours Peter is a fine example, not a rare type but very nice indeed Dave
Peter J Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Wow, that's an amazing collection Dave , thanks for sharing it KRPeter
