Mark C. Yerger Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Among the KC holders the Luftwaffe are among the nicest replying questions and with requests allowing signed photos.Alfred Grislawski, EL, 133 victories
Mark C. Yerger Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 In all letters and both times I met Galland he was very, very pleasant to all. My first meeting was in 1978 in the USA
Mark C. Yerger Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 (edited) Erich Rudorffer, Swords, 222 victories, is among the few still living Swords holders. Edited August 21, 2005 by Mark C. Yerger
Mark C. Yerger Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 (edited) In my humble opinion, if not for a year in the hospital during the war, G?nther Rall would have been the top ace. An amazing pilot. Edited August 21, 2005 by Mark C. Yerger
Mark C. Yerger Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Johannes Steinhoff, Swords and 176 victory ace who led the postwar German Air Force
Guest E ~ Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 nice colur pics mark ! Rall is an interesting chap although his last war efforts are a bit dismal in JG 300 a postion he was not well suited for at all. A great pilot taking on a full fledged Jagdgeschwader getting the hell blown out of itself on a daily basis and Rall having to do the dirty work of tyring to keep things in order and the unit emplaced at different airfields.a good friend that passed away this June. RK Will Unger, a fantastic pilot flying SturmFw's....in one of the many Sturms he flew in IV.Sturm/JG 3
Guest E ~ Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 another friendand ace from IV.Sturm/JG 3 days later flying in JG 7 and the 262. He might be the first pilot to knock out a fighter with rockets...........did not receive the RK. Walter Hagenah
Mark C. Yerger Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 As time permits will have some other signed photos scanned and posted. I've always had a great deal of interest in Stuka KC holders. Amazing numbers of missions flown compared with Allied pilots. Below is a large format color photo of Franz Kieslich dedicated to me, he flew well over 1000 missions and won the Oakleaves.
Guest E ~ Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 looks like Mark and I are the only ones posting pics.......... ?hmmmmm c'mon guys add em here.Hans Weik another SturmFw pilot and RK winner of JG 3
Mark C. Yerger Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I'll have to scan some others this weekend.Mark
Frank M Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Okay, here's but a trio of some of those whom I have had the good fortune to be able to correspond with over the years. My own black and white of Guenther Rall.
Frank M Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Gerhart Schoepfel. ( General Galland's wingman during the Battle Of Britain ).
Frank M Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Okay, here's another one of the General himself, Adolf Galland. He was the first Luftwaffe RK recipient that I ever had the pleasure to be able to correspond with, and this is the photograph that he sent me as a memento.
Bob Hunter Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Very cool photo. He embodied the essence of a fighter pilot.
notned Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Gentlemen,I am in awe! to have had correspondence with these fine gentlemen must have been a highlight!I agree, the Luftwaffe pilots were perhaps the most Chivalrous of the RK winners and the perhaps the most modest.Keep them coming gents....Has any of you had the honour of holding these gents medals in your grubby paws?I once ( as a young boy) held the only ever, combattant double Victoria cross winner Captain Charles Hazlitt Uphams VC and bar and the rest of his medals on a medal bar...im my grubby little hands!! ( these medals are now in the Waiouru museum in the north island of New Zealand.)That was one of the most proudest moments of my life!RegardsPaul
Simon Orchard Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Some very nice signed photos indeed, the colour ones in particular.Does anyone have any to any of the JG5 RKTs that survived the war?
