Chris Boonzaier
Another one forced on me...I assume it is the 1839 medal? Not a big ticket item but the ones I have found online seem to be a not as nice quality? And this one is really thick.Does anyone know anything about these?ThanksChris
Dave Danner
It's the Felddienst-Auszeichnung, Baden's general service decoration. There were 18 possible bars for the medal:180518061806-180718071808-18131809 1809-18101812181318141814-18151815 18481849186618701870-18711871 That one has a good chocolate-y patina. saschaw
The bars were not awarded until 1866, so the early ones are exremely rare, give to those handfull ex-soldiers in their late 70s at least ... In Baden, nice medals are actually possible to get, but really hard it's with nice old ribbons - and the bars, of course. I have by now none others than the common "1866" and "1870-1871", my father has as well the bit rarer "1870" and "1871" - no others, and we a r e looking for those ... The medals were not awarded for any war later than 1870/71, neither for China and colonial campaigns nor for World War I.
