ccj
Would those of you who own Landwehr and Reserves headgear and uniforms please post examples? I'm especially interested in learning more about the headgear crosses and cockades for these troops.

Chip
Charles,I doubt you will learn anything from this, but here is a selection of Reservist/Landwehr cockades (with the exception of the standard Hamburg enlisted cockade in the upper left of the photo).Chip Edited July 15, 2007 by Chip

Often I see portraits and uniform items and I don't know the difference it's an enlisted man wearing the landwehr insignia on his collar.
Chip
Charles,I would think if you just had an enlisted cap with a "Reservist" cockade, there would be no way of telling whether the soldier was a reservist or a Landwehrmann. Issue markings would be your only help. Landsturm could be differentiated by the color of the cross on the cockades for all ranks. Gilt metal crosses for Landsturm and silver for Landwehr and Reservists. The Landsturm were the ones that wore their corps/battalion insignia on their collars starting in 1915. ChipThere's another area that confuses me. Landsturm verses Landwehr. I can read about it then several months later I'm confused again. ccj
I was thinking more like 80. Chip80! You won't remember what the stuff is by then. You'll probably start wearing the helmets and pinning the medals on the kids who knock on your door. We can't let that happen. Enjoy them a few more years then call me... I've drive up and load the stuff for safe keeping. I even give you some money for your Medicare co-pay.
