Can any one tell me what these Dutch medals are.

They belonged to a friend's father but the father never told him what they were for.

Medal 1. Mobilization War Cross 1939-40

Medal 2. Commemorative War Cross, with bar "Nederland Mei 1940" (Netherlands, May 1940)

Medal 3. Cross for Order and Peace, for service in the East Indies 1945-1949

Medal 1 was awarded to those who were mobilized, but did not qualify for Medal 2.

This is a very good site, but I'm afraid you'll need to take a crash course in Dutch for it to be of any real help..

There are several Dutch members ( me included) that I'm sure would be glad to help with some translations...

    Cheers.

    Thanks for the feed back.

From what I have read, and correct me if I am wrong, my friends father must have been

involved in the mobilisation of the army 1939 to 1940,tookpart in the fighting against Germany in 1940 and then went on to Indonesia after the war.

    Regards

    Hello Peter,

Yes, that's it ... one wonders what he did (or where he was) between May 1940 and ca. 1945.

    Cheers,

    Maybe:

    1. he took part in the actions in May 1940 (Oorlogsherinneringskruis)

    2. he was involved in the resistance and liberation 1944-1945 (Mobilisatie-Oorlogskruis)

    3. went to Indonesia because

    a. he still wasn't tired of fighting

    b. he couldn't get out of military service

-> (Ereteken voor Orde en Vrede)

    Erik
