    Hello,

    Thank you very much for your neverending help, so we have one person that seems to become a suspect, namely Fritz Crienitz. But we are still not there as we must rule out or confirm the other remaining officers.

    So at this point certainly a good candidate:

    * Crienitz Fritz- Hptm.

    The remaining names

    * Engel, Hans - Lt.

    * Fraunberg (Freiherr von und zu), Hans - Lt.

    * Goltz (von der) - Lt.

    * Haeseler (von), Kurt - Lt.

    * Heyden (von), Helmuth - Lt.

    * Ihn, Max - Olt.

    * Neumann - Hptm.

    * Peters, Emil - Olt.

    * Plagemann - Lt.

    * Werder (von), Claus - Hptm.

    Thanks in advance :cheers:

    Hello Claudius,

    Thank you for that PM, just did see it + here it is (interesting for general interest)

    Olt. Z. See Alfred Edler

    -he was a pilot and earned the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross (and that certainly would be on his uniform) Additionally, our photo guy has a black ARMY would badge and Olt.z. See is navy and would recieve the naval wound badge.

    => as he did get the Wilhelm Ernst cross/ not our guy

    Lt. (Freiherr von und zu) Hans Fraunberg

    -he also earned the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross => as he did get the Wilhelm Ernst cross/ not our guy

    Lt. Kurt (von) Haeseler

    -he had the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross AND the Turkish Eisener Halbmond (aka Gallipoli Star) => as he did get the Wilhelm Ernst cross + the Galipoli Star / not our guy

    Olt. Max Ihn

    -He became a pilot. Usually an observer that latter becomes a pilot will always wear their pilot badge. Iff so, also not our guy.

    So a few more to check, the list is narrowing down => still 7 suspects. :jumping:

    Thank you Claudius :cheers:

    Cannot eliminate

    Crienitz

    Engel

    Ihn

    or Neumann

    The others had other awards, were killed during the war etc.

    Don't know where CLAUS von Werder came from?? The only one LISTED was Hans Heinrich, and not a flyer (artillery--Reichsheer).

    But of course this is NOT "the" list, and with 60% of this class Falcon missing, cannot be definitive. It just can't be done.

    I wish somebody would pick any other grade of this Order, where the odds of finding anybody are MUCH better! :rolleyes:

    Not that Neal O'Connor noted-- but then he was looking for aviation units, so he skipped anyone who was NOT flying at the time of award.

    Given the average life expectancy of air crew in ??? weeks, many of the awards in "flying" groups were actually earned on the ground.
