    He was "commander of a mortar crew."

    Born in, and returned to live in, village of Izbechiye Komarichenniye, Komarichensy Raion of Bryansk Oblast.

    His civilian job was foreman ("Desyatnik" which is literally "leader of 10") at the Komarichney "Rai-der," "Rai" being the abbreviation for Raion (district) but I don't know what "der" would come out for. Wreched Soviet acronyms!!!!!!
