JBFloyd Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Can anyone give me an educated guess as to the identification of the attached commemorative medal? It's silver and small (20mm). The initials on the obverse are "MLM" and the reverse has the date "10 Juli 1900". It has a small button on the back for lapel wear. The possible connection I can find is the marriage of Maximilian Alexander Friedrich Wilhelm of Baden to Marie Louise, Princess of Hannover, on that date. She descended on her mother's side of the family from the Danish royal family, which may account for the red/white ribbon.Help!
Paul C Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hi Jeff, I don't have my Hessenthal and Schreiber book with me. If you have a copy check it.
JBFloyd Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 Paul,I don't find it in the big Nimmergut, but I haven't checked H&S yet.
Chesley Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I may be off here, but on July 10, 1900 Crown Prince Rupprecht (Son of Ludwig III) marriedMaria Gabriele Mathilde (of Bavaria?) in Munich. If that "MLM" is perhaps "MGM" instead, could that be your match?Just a guess, offered for what it's worth.
Schießplatzmeister Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Hello Jeff:An interesting piece that you show for inspection. I think that you may have nailed this one already. It is not an official award and will not appear in H&S or any other reference regarding official awards as far as I know.Best regards"SPM" (An old friend who visited you at the American Legion hall show many years ago in San Antonio when we were both in Texas)
Wild Card Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Hi Jeff,Considering the likely Danish connection, have you run this by Tim Eriksen?Best wishes,Wild Card
