Ferdinand Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 (edited) Almost all Red Stars were produced in the Moscow Mint. Some early pieces were produced in the Krasnokamsk Mint and a later batch was produced in the 'Platinapribor' Factory in Moscow (Moskovsky Zavod Platinapribor - MZPP). The approximate serial number range for these MZPP Red Stars is 1,790,000 to 1,945,000 and 2,050,000 to 2,290,000, about 395,000 pieces in total. Here's one of mine: Edited November 8, 2007 by Ferdinand

Ed_Haynes Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Yes, that's a MZPP-piece! Thanks, I knew it looked BIZARRE!!
Christian Zulus Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Dear Bryan,I found one in my collection, which is rather similar to your one:s/n. 1.879.911Sorry ...., I have only a flat-bed scanner of cheap quality, which can not scope with the screwpost .Best regards Christian
Guest Rick Research Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 OK, so the EARLIER number range are the "thin arms" style, while the later range are the "fat cookie" type?I always considered this an odd, left over screwpost base one, without the screwpost ring---From the documented group to Polar Fleet naval aviation Major Verbitsky. His 2nd Red Star is a 1953 long service award, but his "MZPP" one was awarded in August 1945.
Bill Garvy Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Here is my example, and one of the first I obtained, #2246504. . .2246504 obverse:2246504 reverse:
