Chris Boonzaier Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Hi,What do you guys consider to be the earliest Destroyer badge maker? i.e. those that were awarded on the day they were first given out?ThanksChris
Martin W Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Chris,my guess would be one of the early type tombak Schwerin's.I have one with the recipients service no. scratched on the reverse.N1060/34T.This indicates he joined the Kriegsmarine in 1934.So i wonder if he was one of the earliest recipients of the award?Cheers,Martin.
Gordon Williamson Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Quite possibly Schwerin. They were certainly reputedly the first to manufacture the U-Boat Badge. Problem is, that by the time the first Destroyer Badges were being issued ( some time after the official institution date of June 1940), the Destroyer Badges were already being featured in the sales catalogues of multiple manufacturers, so probably several candidates for being the first actually handed out.
