bifter Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 When I first srarted on Socialist awards I got badly burnt by a corrupt dealer selling fakes of the Chinese cilil war awards. Some genuine ones were produced from copper & paint, & these were the ones I was scammed with. They were good copies of better origionals, produced from the same materials! Since then though, I have learnt a tad about the Genuine awards, &, if you can aquire & afford them, they are lovely to have & hold. The 'Peace' award is a personal favourite & I beleive Collect Russia has one at the moment. A majority of the real civil war awards will never come up for sale outside China unless the red regime should collapse & the world becomes nostalgic as with the soviet bloc. I would love to become rich & collect the real stuff; I would travel to China & pay stupid prices if I had to; I actually prefer the Chinese awards to Russian ones. Whenever I get my genuine Chinese awards out & handle them, I just 'Feel' happy.
Gordon Craig Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 bifter,Thanks for your comments. I look forward to being able to handle some real Chinese medals some day. My investment in these fakes was't much and I always expect to have to pay to become educated. At least I now have something to compare to the pictures in the books.Regards,Gordon
Archer Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 TO ADD TO THIS OLD THREAD ... Bought in Seoul and cleaned up in a mild acid solution, here is the People's Republic of China's take on the Nationalist Chinese Order of the Sacred Tripod. Apart from the clunking heavyness and flat finish, the obvious give-aways are: * the communist-style ribbon - with * completely wrong colour combination, * the shabby and inadequate split ring at the suspender (it's a bit of wire), and * the People's Republic-type reverse mounting pin. I hope the Chairman doesn't toss me out if I say I am really enjoying playing with such an obvious "dud" - I can wear it around town and not even be a walt, just a fantasist. Alternatively I've thought of using it as a keyring, or a garden ornament! William
