Here is a similar one for a Baden NCO likewise turned Feldwebelleutnant and given the W?rttemberg Merit Cross with Swords because nothing else "appropriate" existed for their rank.

This is from David S's collection and has the Prussian "suspects" I haven't been able to eliminate, with Immer or Vollmer being mostly likely for this one. My best guess is, your guy was one of the others on this list, Christophe.
