I've posted this ages back as part of a general survey of Soviet photo IDs, but made nice new BIG scans in honor of the waning days of what is now a 50th anniversary.

This is a Pass for a member of the staff of the Group of Soviet Forces In Germany

When is a "Pass" NOT a ... pass? when it restricts movements, too.

Colonel of Technical Services Aleksandr Ivanovich Ivanov, along with anyone accompanying him, is allowed free passage through a number of ennumerated Berlin suburbs-- Dallwitz, Sch?nefelde, Wunsdorf, etc etc etc. He is also specifically exempted from searches of his baggage (oho  ) and is permitted to travel by car beyond the 100 KM limit

    BUT

exit to the WESTERN Sector of Berlin and the Federal Republic is

    "CATEGORICALLY PROHIBITED."

    Colonel Ivanov:

Best of all, even people who don't read Russian can tell what year it is from! :cheeky:

Interesting that the cover is translated in German!

I really like that kind of Germany occupation document. Thanks for sharing it with us Rick!
