lilo Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Hello All,I noted at least two different types of the ?Order of the Netherlands Lion? (see photos attached):A) type without enamel around the lion;B) type with enamel around the lion.I would like to know :Do this difference in manufacture enable us to establish exactly in which period (from ? to) that Order was adopted or it is a simple variation due to who made the Order ?In other words, considering the type without enamel around the lion, can we exactly establish when this pattern was in use ?If so, can you specify what is the period of issue (from ? to) for both the ?A? and ?B? patterns ?Awaiting to hear from youBest RegardsLilo
ErikMuller Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Lilo,I don't think they enamel on the backsite gives a clue on the period. I think that difference can be explained by differtent makers. One thing that I can say about these two pieces is, that they are very early pieces. How? Because the crown is connected between the balls of the arms. Later versions have a reversed V between the crown and the cross.Cheers,ErikHello All,I noted at least two different types of the ?Order of the Netherlands Lion? DutchBoy Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Lilo,Thanks for starting this thread. I've been wanting to buy this order for a long time but never got around to it. I have Oranje-Nassau and Militaire Willemsorde in various grades, but not the Nederlandse Leeuw yet. I hope we can get more tips here on dating and perhaps authenticity?
laurentius Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Dear fellow collectors, When we discuss orders with the crown fixed directly to the cross what kind of time period are we looking at? Is there any information regarding the change to the 'reversed V'? Kind regards and thanks in advance, Laurentius
