Gordon Craig Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 We have had a good dicussion on the Zalka M?t? wearer's copy of this award so I thought it timely to start a thread on the actual medal itself. The medal comes in a red box without any designation of any kind on the top. It measures 11.5cm (4.5") x 7.5cm (2 7/8") x 2.0cm (3/4"). The medal itself is 4.8cm high (1 7/8") high including the suspension ring which is part of the medal and 4.5cm wide. It weighs 46 grams.Regards,GordonThe top of the case.

Gordon Craig Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) The bottom of the case. I have no idea what the signifance is, if any, of the pencil written number "35" on the bottom of the case. Edited January 31, 2008 by Gordon Craig
Ulsterman Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 wow.A great medal. The pinnacle of the Hungarian socialist collection really. Where did you get it?The people who survived to get these must have had amazing stories to tell.
Gordon Craig Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Ulsterman,I bought the medal from a militaria dealer here in Budapest. There have been two sold in Budapest in the last year. The one I bought and a second one at an auction last November. The auction price exceeded what I paid for mine by quite a bit. With the wearers one that Ed bought that is a lot in such a short space of time. I don't expect that to happen again. 2007 semed to be an unusual year with lots of high end, rare medals coming on the market. That isn't happening this year.Regards,Gordon
