Guest Rick Research
My to Ulsterman, who found this while I was down the row at this morning's show, saving a French Colonial Medal for him!
Guest Rick Research
Sascha knows why this is a find. But for Charles-- referencing your earlier questions about whether someone from a unit with Gardelitzen could continue wearing that on their collar while in a non-Garde unit:This unfortunately nameless Feldwebelleutnant MUST have been in RESERVE or LANDWEHR Infantry Regiment 109, because he bears the numbers rather than cipher of the peacetime parent regiment. BUTnote the very clear less faded "ghost" where his collar once bore Litzen, and presumably NCO Borte on the underside of his collar as far as the back of the tabs. From the stitching at the back upright of what remains to indicate that he was a Warrant Officer rather than a Leutnant... I'd bet you that the slightly covered forward edges of his collar patches were still underneath that upright of NCO lace, just sheared off when he removed them. Guest Rick Research
Perhaps the loss of UNIT prestige in removing his NCO collar patches was less--to him?-- than continued wear would be in emphasizing his temporary status? My first-- and ONLY "BZ4K" photo. THANKS to Ulsterman!
saschaw
And thanks to you! That's the first one I've ever seen in wear and reminds me that I promised to make good scans of my devices for your ribbon bar article ... but you're not working on this at the moment, so not a too big problem, I hope - will make good pictures and post them anywhere in GMIC where you find them ... ostprussenmann_new
The guys name is Feldw.Lt. Altftadt. He is listed as the 5th Company (Komp) Commander in 1914. (pg. 36) Das Reserve-Infantrie Regiment Nr.109 im Weltkrieg 1914 bis 1918. Looks like he survived from checking the Ehrenstaffel. There are pictures of him in my book. Very small, but you need a mgnifine glass to see. Face is very recognizable. Edited December 17, 2010 by ostprussenmann
