coldstream Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Another request for identification I'm afraid. This photo is a recent purchase from EBAY and I'm struggling to ID the award worn under the black wound badge. I'm also guessing on his arm of service, all I'm certain of is he's not infantry. Any ideas please.
DanEMS Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Looks like a Finnish "Nordfront" cross under the wounded badge.Dan
Gordon Williamson Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Definitely one of the Finnish commemorative crosses but hard to say which one. There were several, for the Nordfront, Lapplandfront, Eismeerfront and various dates, 1941-42, 1941-43, 1941-44 and with black enamel or like this one, white enamel to the centre.Very nice photo though ! Shots of these being worn are not so common.
coldstream Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Many thanks for that guys, I do have a book with Finish awards so I'll have a look there. Found this one amongst an ebay shop just marked as a ww2 German soldier and nice and cheap so welll pleased.
coldstream Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Just checked in 'Littlejohns Foreign Legions of the Third Reich' volume 4 and found it, Finish commemorative badge for the North Front. Thanks for the pointers and ID once again.
