buellmeister
Gents, Happy to report that the newest addition to my medal bar collection (now two) has arrived from Germany. It is just like my first in the sense of having a Seven Weeks War veteran but this guy was on the winning side. The other I have has the Nassau Award, in the place of the Bavarian Cross. Interesting to note: that the order of precidence on my other Bar has the Kaiser Centennial medal last and here it is second? Need Help Guys..Regards,Joel Edited June 10, 2008 by buellmeister

buellmeister
I think it's time to invest in a better camera or even one of Rick's Epson Scanners.. Absolutely horrible pictures If I say so myself..Joel
Guest Rick Research
That Bavarian style of never tarnishing white metal with the extremely clever raised outer edges seems to have turned up in the 1880s-- and disappeared by circa 1900. Maybe it cost too much, or the manufacturer went out of business.Bavarians wore their 1866 War Cross after the "Reichs" 1870-71 War Medal, so that's normal. I suspect that this was made so soon after the 1897 Centenary Medal came out that the wearer and outfitter didn't have a clue where to put it-- or were confused by the existing Reichs precedence rules. buellmeister
Rick, Thank you for the valuable information my friend! It is an interesting piece although a little rough. What makes these interesting is, although Germany was unified in 1870, the States still had their own Orders and a way of arranging them. Now, I need to find a few more.
