hunyadi Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I need help identifying these, please. The piece on left says "Distinguished Pioneer" to my rudimentary Magyar ("Pioneer" as in youth group?)Jeff - you have the one on the left correctly identified - this was a medal given for excelletn work in the Young Communist Youth Group (KISZ). My beleif is that these were awarded to the 'Den Masters' for acomplishments. On the right you have a distinguished Public Security Medal in Bronze (thats what the scan material looks like). The ribbon distinguishes it for the "Karhatalom" or the armed branch of the AVH (State Security Police). The medal was instituted in 1951 and the Karhatalom ribbon was authorized in 1954. The Karhatalom contin ued to serve after the 1956 revolution as a standing force to take down any further insurrections. The branze grade was for 5 years of service, Silver for 15 and Gold for 30.
hunyadi Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 And three unidentified badgesLeft you had the KISZ badge for support of the organization while working in a separate field. (IE not directly related to KISZ) there was also a military version with crossed PPSh's for those in the military who assisted in the organization. The next two are military sports badges for military districts / bases. Not much is printed about these badges unfortunatly and I dont have any photos of it in wear.....
