Chris Boonzaier Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Working through piles of docs for the book project and I came across this long forgotten piece...This is an essential doc to include for one good reason.... anyone want to guess ...
VtwinVince Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Interesting document, Chris, I'll guess that since it is issued "Im Felde" late in November, 1918 ie. post-armistice, then this would be a very late field award.
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Hi,At the time it was signed the division was pulling back to Germany... but thats not it... :-)
Guest Rick Research Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 It is the earliest evidence of paper clips ever found.
Chip Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Chris,I have gone through various mental senarios and all I can figure is its "specialness" has something to do with the fact the "Vorl?ufiges" is crossed out, pretty much meaning that at this late date...it was the only document he was going to get. There might not be anyone around to make it "more" official since the army was breaking up.
VtwinVince Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Okay, I'm really reaching here, but the "stellvertretend", or acting, has been crossed out of the Major's title, so maybe a post-armistice promotion for him?
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Chip almost had it.In Early/mid 1918 the Kaiser announced that all certificates issued should be considered to be the final award document.Reading between the lines, initially there was to be a final "Official" one... but by 1918 they decided to scrap that plan and go with what the guys had.
