Ed_Haynes Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Actually, I am assuming post-1947 variety. May not be. Which type??
Kang Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 No, not now. Technically, this is illegal. This is a new one and a tremendous puzzle for me. Shall ask around. The medal, easy. Ed_Haynes Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Yes ok M.A.T.C. (stands for MERWARA ARTILLARY TRANSPORT CORPS) Do you know anything about this regiment? No, I have never seen any evidence that such a unit ever existed. What evidence do you have?
Kang Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 No, I have never seen any evidence that such a unit ever existed. What evidence do you have?I bought the medal and the seller mentioned the name. I make a note somewhere. This is rare. Maybe this is not during the WW1 and probably after 1947.

Ed_Haynes Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 A FULL SIZE GVI INDIA ARMY LONG SERVICEBad sign. Most of the Pakistani fakes have been that variety.
censlenov Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I'm not liking the sounds of it either can you please get some pictures of it posted. Especially of the naming.CheersChris
Michael Johnson Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) Might it be "Mountain Artillery Training Centre"? I think I ran across this abbreviation 20+ years ago. Must check the Indian Artillery history and "Tales of the Mountain Gunners".Thought so. See here. Edited September 9, 2008 by Michael Johnson

(And, yes, I know that sub-divine beings cannot scan it.) Edited September 9, 2008 by Ed_Haynes
censlenov Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Might it be "Mountain Artillery Training Centre"?What about Mountain Artillery Transport Corps???? Sounds like a possiblity but i still want to see the naming before i say anything for certain. I checked DNW's archives and couldn't find mention of this abbreviation.
Michael Johnson Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Subject to seeing the naming, definitely Mountain Artillery Training Centre. Formed 1920 at Dehra Dun, moved to Lucknow in 1921, then to Amballa in 1928, where it remained. It was active through the Second War.
Ed_Haynes Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I still can't recall seeing GVI artillery medals with any naming other than IA/RIA.
Ed_Haynes Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 (edited) I have raised this with off-forum others and the consensus is "Mountain Artillery Training Centre". An uncommon unit. Edited September 10, 2008 by Ed_Haynes
