OK, its not factory made, but definitely a wartime conversion. I wonder if anyone might guess why this one is so special.

Here he is. The reason it is so special, completely unique in fact, is that very few DK in Silver (working from memory just 4 or maybe 5)were awarded to people within the U-Bootwaffe, and most of these were very senior ranks, Admirals etc.. Müller was the <u>only</u> U-Boat officer to be awarded the DK in Silver. He served on U-14, U-38, then as L.I. to 8 U-Flotille and finally at AGruFront.

This is about the ONLY design I can think of where the award spinning around on a central screwpost would not matter-- since it would look exactly the same from any angle far enough away not to see the "1941."

No idea. Quite a few L.I. got the DK but everyone else got the Gold.
