ccj Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 Question\Why do so many WW1 French tunics have the rank removed? I notice this often on officer tunics. These tunics normally have the rest of the insignia but the rank has been removed.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Hi,would the Croix de combattant not make this substantially newer than WW1?BestChris
ccj Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 (edited) Hi,would the Croix de combattant not make this substantially newer than WW1?BestChrisThat I'm not sure. I think the ribbons were added latter but I could be wrong. The tunic matches the 16 pattern completely. I just assume the owner added the ribbons after the war. Looking closely it appears at one time there were loops for only one medal slightly above and the the right of where the CdG now rest. Oh, the ribbon is actually white with red stripes so I think it a commemorative medalI am not an expert, French uniforms are hard to date for my because of so many variations.
