Paul C Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I have had this bar for a while and would like to confirm that the first medal, the Hannover Military Medal 1841-1866 is the Hannover enlisted mans long service medal. This medal and the Langansala medal ar named to a F. Behning. Thanks for the help.
VtwinVince Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Now that is an interesting bar. Can we see the reverse of the medals, please?
Paul C Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 I never took a pic of the reverse and now it is in the bank, sorry. However it is a red back.
Komtur Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) Hi Paul,"Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen f?r Milit?rverdienst 1841-1866" (Hannover)General Medal for Military Merit. So not directly a long service medal but for "excellent military merit" for enlisted men. Accordingly to Nimmergut until 1860 the whole name and rank was engraved, after that only the first letter of the prename and the name. It was given inofficially by King George V. also after 1866 in his exile.Best regards,Komtur.BTW very nice bar of a soldier first fighting against and then with the Prussians.
