censlenov Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Hello EveryoneJust recently i managed to get my first soviet group with documents (and didn't have to sell a kidney for them). I have arranged for the research to be taken care of and will see results shortly. What i was wondering afew things in the meantime: Are these 2 documents are to the same man? What is his name?Does the award card indeed indicate a glory 3, mmm, and redstar? Are there any red flags with the document? I'm comfortable with the awards but was just curious about the docs.Any help would be greatly appreciatedCheersChris
Ferdinand Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Are these 2 documents are to the same man? What is his name?Yes both are to Vasily Aleksandrovich Gorbatov. The Capture of Berlin doc gives his rank as Senior Sergeant.Does the award card indeed indicate a glory 3, mmm, and redstar?Yes, a Red Star first, then the Glory 3, and then the MMM.
Guest Rick Research Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Washed out scan, but Capture of Berlin appears to have been issued by 40th Mechanized Regiment-- so there's your first clue. Since the Orders Book was filled out 26 (May?) 1947, the awards have been placed in seerniuority, not chronological order--Red Star March-April '45, Glory 3 some time between July '44 and March '45, and the MMM I'd have placed about July-August '43 but the Book says privileges started October '43, so that was a September award.Nice group and research should be quite good.
