Ed_Haynes Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 As I was looking through back issues of The Medal Collector (now the JOMSA), I came across the attached short article (35, 4; April 1984; p. 19).Does anyone know if this sad tale ever had a happy ending or the stolen medals still, as they said in the "X Files", "out there"?
VtwinVince Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Good question, it would be nice if his 1870 Grosskreuz turned up. It makes you wonder what the Americans were doing with Moltke's medals, probably "liberated" in 1945.
Stogieman Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 It seems there was an awful lot of this, look at the whole G?ring issue.... I don't know, I don't want to start a "To the victor goes the spoils debate"... I can easily walk on both sides of that fence!
VtwinVince Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Quite right, Stogie. From my point of view, coming from an old Prussian family which lost everything to the victors, I tend to view such things with a somewhat jaundiced eye.
