Thanks for your response. After I initiated this thread I looked at the pinned reference material at the beginning of the forum and compared the lettering in this photo with that on some of the awards. The closest would appear to be one of the Anniversay of Mongolia awards. Would that seem reasonable to you? I'll ask for pictures of the interior and post what I get back.

All the cover says is....

B.N.M.A.U (mongolian peoples rep. etc.)

So as Ed said it could be for almost anything.

Polar star, labour order, labour medals etc.

There is just no way to tell from the cover.
