Guest IMHF Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 (edited) Where can I get that kind of hinged pin attachment? Doc Probably really hard to find now: Lorenzo Edited August 17, 2009 by IMHF
Guest IMHF Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I have 3 sets of these medals to make 3 Saddam Bars but no mounting system to combine them together... Lorenzo
Riley1965 Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 (edited) The next two Medals arrived today. The General service Medal and the Bravery Medal, 1st Class. Now to buy the last (and most expensive) Medal the Wisam-al Jadara. That will complete the replica of Saddam's Medal Bar. The first pic is the the Bravery Medal, 1st Class and the second is the General Service Medal. Doc Edited August 25, 2009 by Riley1965
Guest IMHF Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Very nice Doc, with this bravery medal you will have to change out the ribbon and try to find the old sick ones from Qasum's era. That is the kind Saddam wore on his uniform: Lorenzo
Guest IMHF Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 One of my old friends from Baghdad, has a roll of the silk ribbon for this type of medal, Ammar knows who he is... Lorenzo
Riley1965 Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 (edited) Thanks Lorenzo!!! I'll talk to Ammar. Here's my medals for the replica of Saddam's medal bar minus the Wisam al-Jadara. I've been working on a replica of Saddam's medal bar from one of his official portraits. All I need to complete it is the Wisam al-Jadara. The medals are: TOP ROW (L-R): Bravery Medal, General Service Medal, Nut Herb Filistine 1948-49/Medal for the Palestine War 1948-49, Nut Quami al-Isyian fi al-Shimal/Medal for crushing the Northern Rebellion, Nut Thurath 14 Ramadan (1963)/Medal for the 14 Ramadan Revolution (1963), The Medal for the 17 July Revolution in 1968 Bottom Row (L-R): Co-Operation Medal 1967-73, 1st class / Nut al-Taawin, 1967-72, 1st class, The Medal of Peace with the Kurds (Gilt), Golden Jubillee Medal 1st class & Medal for the 1973 War with Israel. I will frame this with the pieces of one Saddam's main bunker in Baghdad, a picture of my friend Brian (killed 17 May 1987 aboard the USS Stark) and a picture of the official portrait this medal bar is based on. Brian Wolfe Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Hi Doc, I've been following this thread for some time now and while it is not within the area of my collecting I am interested in seeing such items as this recreated. I've thought of doing this sort of thing myself but ambition is not running too deeply with me at the moment. It's good to see the progress you've made and I look forward to the end result. Regards Brian
Guest IMHF Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Cool you have been using my framed Picture of Saddam with his medals.. Lorenzo
Riley1965 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Cool you have been using my framed Picture of Saddam with his medals.. Lorenzo Hey Lorenzo, I figured that I should use the picture of him wearing the medal bar to go with my replica. I do need to make one thing VERYclear. I am buying the medals a couple at a time from an Iraqi Medal Dealer...NOT from any Military or coalition civilians. The ONLY reason I'm making this is as my personal memorial to my life-long friend Brian who was killed onboard the USS Stark. This will NEVER be sold, traded or given away. I would undo it before it ever left my care. Doc
Guest IMHF Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I am glad you are making a set, I feel the same way about my medals as well: You are a great friend.. Lorenzo
Guest IMHF Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) Doc also I noticed that the GSM ribbon is a little short in width you need to see if you can get an earlier ribbon for this medal. I am not talking about the Kingdom verision I am talking about the Republic earlier version the ribbons were a little larger in width, that was the type Saddam Hussein wore on his medal bar. Riley1965 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) Here's some pictures I'll use in the display and the list of those killed along with Brian (the list has his name spelled as Bryan Clinefelter) and a remembrance: The Remembrance We remember the 37 American Navy crewmen who were killed in the Persian Gulf when their frigate, the USS Stark, was hit by Iraqi missiles on May 17, 1987. The mission of the USS Stark was to maintain peace in the hostile environment of the gulf: to help keep essential sea lanes open, to show the American flag in an area of vital interest, and to provide U.S. Navy protection to those entitled to it. And for the cause of peace in a troubled world these 37 brave Americans lost their lives. The List of the Honored Dead We Remember Them... 37 Who Died Doran Bolduc - Lacy, Wash. Guest IMHF Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I just realized that I will have to measure the medal layout because the ribbons are of different widths. Doc Doc Its better to get a measurement off one premade and just fit the medals on it.. I sent john an e-mail about the length of his... Reverse: Lorenzo
Guest IMHF Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Here is my e-mail reply: Lorenzo, The metal bar to which the medals are attached is 190mm long. If I did not send you a photo of the back of the bar let me know, I can take a picture and send one if needed. Best regards, John

Guest IMHF Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Hey lorenzo, Thanks for the length of the mounting bar. You have posted the front and back of your friends replica bar. Doc Doc Yes this one is my friend's, I have enough of each medal to make 3 medal bars, I just want to keep them in their original state. If Chris can get us the mounting system 190mm I will be happy to put one together. Thank you Lorenzo Edited August 30, 2009 by IMHF
