Gordon Williamson Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 For me at least. Its an early Juncker of course but not any run of the mill Juncker. This mint piece (sadly this snapshot doesn't do it justice) has all its original gilding and note that the swastika is cut out, as is the area around the deck gun. A superlative badge, and one which belonged to Korvettenkapitän Hans Müller of U-14, and was recently donated to the collection of the Deutsches U-Boot Museum. They don't come any better than this. <img src="http://gmic.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/love.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="love.gif" />
Martin W Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Awesome badge Gordon.i guess they do not come any better than this and with provenance.Regards,Martin.
Tim B Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 (edited) That's one nice looking badge! Gordon, by chance, do you know if it had a round wire or flat stock style catch? I would "assume" with it being cutout, the badge was probably manufactured earlier and had the round wire "C" type catch. What about the hinge? Barrel or block? Curious. All these Junckers are nice, great looking badges! Tim Edited July 22, 2009 by Tim B
Gordon Williamson Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Hi Tim,Yes, as you'd expect, an early style round wire clip. Pin is the Juncker style tapering pin similar to that found on some Juncker EK1 Spange.
Tim B Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Hi Gordon,Yes, as expected. I actually almost picked one of these up years ago and didn't and believe it or not, the dealer had a very hard time getting rid of it. When I did go for it, they had just sold it at one of the big Geman shows in 2005. Tim
Tim B Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Always liked the badge, just that pit on the reverse held me up from buying it originally. Oh well... Tim
Erik Krogh Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Always liked the badge, just that pit on the reverse held me up from buying it originally. Oh well... TimTim,It actually wasn't purchased at a show - just an internet order Gordon - thanks for showing that stellar badge!Best,Erik
Erik Krogh Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 While neither of my badges can approach the condition of the one shown by Gordon, it is interesting to compare the two styles. The badge with the cut-out swaz has the round wire catch and is considerably thicker and heavier than the non-cut-out example (with the flat wire catch). Please look at the top-down view below.
Erik Krogh Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Here is the top-down comparison. Please note that the cut-out example is on the RIGHT side (I reversed the order while photographing these and it was such a pain to get them to stay up that I didn't re-shoot using the correct positioning).
Tim B Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Hey Erik!Good to see it went to a great home! Doreen had said it sold at a show, might have been confused, who knows. Glad you got it! Tim
Gordon Williamson Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Erik, I'm really jealous ------but glad its in a good home. For me the only other that comes close to this- what I'd say was the first type Juncker, is the phenomenal screwback version of the Juncker badge that Michel has.
