Ulsterman Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Meteroric rise in rank there for Herr Breitenfeld. From private to Lt. d R. in 6 months. Is that a change in status to "war volunteer"? I have no clue what award he got in Oct. 1918. Looks to me like he had one big wound. Is that IR 74 3 zug, 6 komp?

Guest Rick Research Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 What did he do in the SECOND war that the French had his Wehrpass in June 1945? He joined the army 1 October 1913 presumably as a One Year Volunteer, 3rd Eskadron of Jäger Regiment zu Pferde 6. His rise to Leutnant der Reserve was certainly sped up by about a year-- probably all his contemporaries were after the carnage of 1914. The "Ehrenkreuz für Verdienst im Kriege" 25.10.18 was the "SMK"-- a very late zinky Saxe-Meiningen award. His entry on page 153-B for that date shows him at that time as Leutnant dR in Garde Grenadier Regiment 2 (!) and "Student Ingenieurfach aus Swinemünde." All of you Lucky People with that volume note his details there in pencil. Glad to have his birth date to add to the Thuringian Awards volume-- and he sure looked good for 80 in 1970!

Valkyrie Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Great research Rick..many thanks Ulster and Christain....as to the French connection the only WW2 notation is this... I read that as Wehrbezirkskommando Kempten finding him unfit for service as of 10th July 1944.
