cartoonman
My friend Neil acquired this ribbon bar recently... and is drawing a blank on the black (?) ribbon. Any guesses? Any informed opinions? I know, I know, where's a photo of the back? He hasn't sent one yet... ---Cartoonman
Guest Rick Research
:Cat-Scratch: Ho. It's a tabby-- can tell that from the front. The back will be good only to see whether that spot has been tampered with compared to the tabs on the other three. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting. Must be yet another (why has "everybody" got one but meeeeeeee?) completely totally unauthorized "Kleindekoration" version wear of either a Prussian, Protestant, Johanniter Order or the vatican supported, Catholic, Order of Malta. Position here suggest the former to me. Nice!!!!
speedytop
Hi, I don't see black, it is dark green! It could be for example: Brunswick, lifesaving medal. Uwe

Uwe Good thinking, Uwe, but isn't this the Brunswick medal, with a not-very-dark green ribbon? ---Cartoonman
speedytop
Hi Catroonman, the regulations say "dunkelgrün" dark green! Uwe
cartoonman
Hi Catroonman, the regulations say "dunkelgrün" dark green! Uwe Ach, so.... aber dunkelgrün sieht's nicht aus! It doesn't look dark green, or dark like Neil's ribbon, anyway... It's an interesting idea, but do you think a "dark green" ribbon could appear almost black after time? I'm open to suggestions, I'm just not sure about this one... Tschüß! Cartoonman

Guest Rick Research
Then it is far more likely to be something from Anhalt, given the extreme rarity of the Brunswick Lifesaving Medal and because virtually all recipients of that award are known. RAO
But maybe it is dark, dark, dark blue and a prussian long service medal or cross? Best regards Mike
speedytop
Hallo mike, "maybe it is dark, dark, dark blue" It is definetely dark, dark dark green, without any doubts. We can now chose between medals for Ostvölker, old medals from Sachsen-Altenburg, Sachsen "Wissenschaft und Kunst" and Nassau "Landwirtschaft". But I think, that we can rather follow Rick, for example with Anhalt, long service medal, OEK 88 or 89. Uwe
