bmsm Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 Mervyn and Paul R, Thanks for the comments guys! I'm still above ground so that is the main thing. Our hot weather finally broke up here in Minnesota. We had 39 days of temperatures over 85 degrees and three of them were over 100. I know that is not "hot" in some places or countries but for Minnesota , it's warm. We have had a lot of humidity to go with it. Bob

Paul R Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 It is interesting that they are still using the red triangle and other symbols that relate to the Republican Guard.
bmsm Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 Paul, Glad you are interested in this topic. The only post I have with the Republican Guard Triangles is number 101, Republican Guard, Military Police Identification Chest Badges and in the description I mentioned they were used from 1980-2003. The Republican Guard was disbanded by the Coalition Provisional Authority in May, 2003. Bob It is interesting that they are still using the red triangle and other symbols that relate to the Republican Guard.
Mervyn Mitton Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Bob - quite amazing - you're up to 9 pages ! I still find them interesting - whoever first invented patches certainly started a whole industry. Actually, that is a good research question - where did cloth badges and patches start ? Mervyn
Paul R Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 The patch with the green triangle in post 162 look very much like a rebirth of a Republican Guard type unit(traditional unit)?
bmsm Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Paul, I can see where there could be confusion as an eBay seller has this set listed as "Special Republican Guard - Saddam Era Patches set". Bob The patch with the green triangle in post 162 look very much like a rebirth of a Republican Guard type unit(traditional unit)?
bmsm Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Mervyn, It's good to hear from you! I hope you are in good health. I did a little research into the U.S. Military patches and from what I could find, before World War I, the only military patches were sleeve patches for rank during the Civil War. Additional identification or insignia used by Civil War Union Soldiers were Corp, Divison or Brigade on caps. The first official Military Patch was the US Army's 81st Divison in May,1918. Information from the "Armed Forces History Museum" website. Bob Bob - quite amazing - you're up to 9 pages ! I still find them interesting - whoever first invented patches certainly started a whole industry. Actually, that is a good research question - where did cloth badges and patches start ? Mervyn
