Hi, I purchased some medals when i served in Afghanistan last year. All are quite common and are of the Soviet type style.

However one medal is still totally unknown to me.

Perhaps one of the specialist can help me?

    Thanks in advance and regards

Well, I have looked and looked and while there are several of these "unknown" medals out there in cyberspace (for sale) the 'key" is whatever it says on the reverese.

    Owain?

I can tell you that it appears similar to the royalist Afghani merit medal, probably @ 1940-1970.

On the obverse of the year of 1348 (1969) - the year of foundation of the Islamic movement "- the predecessor of the Hezb-e Jamiat-e Islami.

    On the reverse:

    top: Jihad

    Hello Herman,

Welcome to the forum. When you post a medal or other artifact here it may take a while before someone with knowledge of that particular item responds. I have posted items and received no reply for months and then, perhaps it was a new member, someone with the knowledge I was seeking responded. Sometimes it is a good idea to do what you have done and revive the post but many times it just requires time.

I was one who looked and could add nothing so I left no response and I would think others had done the same.

    Regards

    Brian
