leigh kitchen Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 "Warlord" was a British boys comic which ran for 627 issues - from 28th September 1974 - 27th September 1976, before joining up with Victor. It also teamed up with Bullet at issue 220. Warlord teamed up with Bullet 220 – 231. (9th December 1978 to 4th February 1979) Then teamed up with Victor issues: 1338 - 1353 (Dates 11/10/86 – 24/01/87) Politically incorrect by todays standards, issues sometimes included free gifts such as "secret agent rings", fingerprint kits & sets of plastic replica medals. These covers give an idea of the content........ (The above info & illustrations are from this site: http://www.26pigs.com/warlord/bibliography.html )
leigh kitchen Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 Anyway, I picked up some photos & ephemera a couple of days ago, amongst them wwas this sticker booklet, colourful, but I would'nt have bothered had I looked at it & noticed theat some of the medal stickers have been torn off. There you go, that's the trouble with letting kids have these comics:
FrontlineAntiques Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Awesome! I was born too late (1982) to read these the first time round, but i can remember rifling through my older brother's belongings to pinch his copies of Warlord in the late 80s! Great post Leigh Dan

leigh kitchen Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 The inside centre of the foldover booklet:
leigh kitchen Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 It's not apparent from the scans, but the medal discs or crosses etc are of a shiny, thin card, theyhad to be pressed from the sheet they were printed on, dampened & stuck down in place:
Ulsterman Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Ahh! That brings back memories. Do you have the badge book as well?
leigh kitchen Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 No, Warlord passed me by, I just found this booklet in a curio shop a few days ago, pity a few of the "medals" are missing.
coldstream Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Did'nt Warlord also produce famous battle and regiment postcards?
leigh kitchen Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 No idea, but we have a thread on forum about the "Battle For The Flag" series of postcards issued with "The Rover" & "The Wizard" comics: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=15627&view=&hl=the rover&fromsearch=1
