Freiwillige Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Just got this beautiful photo of a highly decorated WW1 veteran, presumably a member of a certain shooting society. This photo is dated 1939 on the back. Any comments on his awards would be highly appreciated
Freiwillige Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Here's a fragment of the photo with that veteran's awards. Please submit your ideas regarding his decorations!
HeikoGrusdat Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 for shure a member of a shooting club , maybe a "Schützenkönig" , but I can see exactly NO ww1 award... pure shooting club uniform and medals cheers Heiko
Freiwillige Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Thanks, Heiko! Any ideas regarding the exact names of his decorations, at least some of them?
Ulsterman Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 OMG!! Just a LITTLE larger. One of the "medals is the trains long service award. Another is one of the purchase regimental crosses and I think another on the right hand lower medal bar may be the Waurtmbrgn. service medal. The rest are shooting awards and my Shooting awards book-presently boxed up in the attic, may be identifiable. Book is boxed up because wife is painting library-so stay tuned.
speedytop Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Hi Freiwillige, please see all the identical ribbons! Therefore I think, that there is nothing military or are in another way "official". OK, they were awarded from the shooting association(s), but there seems nothing to be official! You could (and can) buy such "awards" in several shops all over in Germany: http://www.steinluec...?unterrubrik=49 http://www.steinluec...?unterrubrik=51 http://www.steinluec...?unterrubrik=50 http://www.steinluec...?unterrubrik=73 etc., etc. Uwe

Could you please concretize (maybe by placing an arrow on the scan) where exactly is the trains long service award and regimental cross?

speedytop Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Hi Freiwillige, the uniform? I will show you only one example, but you can find thousands of them in the German internet: http://www.verberg.d...zenfest2004.htm Please start the slideshow! In German shooting associations you can find all ranks, from soldiers to officers to generals and field marshals. With different uniforms and different weapons like sabres, swords, daggers etc. Uwe
Freiwillige Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Many thanks for the information, Uwe! I thought it's a rare photo due to the numerous awards
Ulsterman Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I assumed that the one on the left was the railroad ehrenzeichen hand mounted (ones sees these sometimes), the one next to it is one of those funny private purchase regimental crosses and the one on the far right, although it looks a bit big, is the Wrtmbrn. service cross? Just identifying at a glance.
HeikoGrusdat Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 sorry....100% no official or inofficial military awards - ALL shooting club awards

speedytop Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Hi Ulsterman, sorry, but there is no correspondence! The first one is the hanger for the medal below, may be an eagle. There is no correspondence for the next two marked crosses with the ribbons. Uwe
Ulsterman Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 QED: Speedytop! I salute you. You are right. A drei prost salute! The railroad one I have seen mounted on generic ribbons before. I assumed it was the same.
