Hello. I have an Iron Cross dated 1813 on one side and 1914 on the other (see photos). It is small compared to the regular Iron Cross (39.5 mm x 39.5 mm). There is no suspension loop; nor was there (no shaved down portion at the top of the cross).

Is this some type of sweatheart medallion or a patriotic medallion created at the onset of WWI?

Any information at all would be useful. Thank you in advance.

If you need higher resolution photos, please let me know and I will e-mail them to you.

    Hello Chris.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Does popping out of its frame occur often? Also, should this be magnetic?

Clearly I do not know enough about the Iron Cross. I can use all the help I can get.

    Thanks again Chris.

    Hi,

sometimes the solder splits... sometimes the devil makes work for idle hands and someone splits one out of the frame.

It should be magnetic, but not being magnetic is also a slight possibility.

hey, i happen to own one of these crosses. mine has the loop and original chain, and i had no idea what the 1813-1914 W menat, but i recognized the cross as some german symbol. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2012/post-14478-0-24108000-1347459426.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2012/post-14478-0-97260000-1347459427.jpg

It looks like good core of EK2 1914, Linasl, typical for CD 800 maker. It is very possible that the frame was dissasembled to act on some 1870 fake cross.
