    Oberst and Commander Prussian Field-Artillery-Regiment

    Recommended Posts

    Hi,

I need your help - I am asking for informations about the life and military career of Julius Ferdinand Wilhelm GREGOROVIUS,

1871 Oberst and Kommandant der 2. Fußabteilung des Ostpreußischen Feldartillerie Regiments Nr.1

(later: Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Prinz August von Preußen (1. Lithauisches ) Nr.1)

    ... around 1882 ausser Dienste.

So I'm searching for any informations (service records, awards, etc. ...) and portraits about him! rolleyes.gif

Thank you for any help you can give me! cheers.gif

    Best regards,

    Jens

... there are two regimental histories:

    "Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Prinz August von Preußen (1. Lithauisches ) Nr.1

    Geschichte des Ostpreussischen Feldartillerie-Regiments Nr.1

    von Fhr. v. Troschke, Berlin 1872, Verlag E. S. Mittler u. Sohn, 280 Seiten."

... and an other one from 1939:

    "Das Feldartillerie-Regiment 'Prinz August von Preußen (1. Litth.) Nr. 1 - 1772-1919."

(Schriftenreihe: Aus Deutschlands großer Zeit. Ehem. preuß. Truppenteile Band 118.)

Alfred Laeger, 1939 Zeulenroda: Sporn, 552 Seiten.

    Jens,

Your man is rather obscure. Until Glenn found the 1870/71 EK list, he had no first name in the Wegner "Stellenbesetzung" series. The only information I can provide is this:

    24.02.74 zur Disposition

    21.11.1871-24.02.1874 Kommandeur d. Fußart. R. 1

1866-13.10.1868 Artillerie Offizier vom Platz in Pillau

    *?? †21.04.93

    Andy

Although not the same date of death as given by Andy the colonel in question must be Julius Gregorovius, brother of the more famous historian Ferdinand Gregorovius. Julius was born 19th Aug. 1819 at Tapiau and died 18th Jul. 1891 in Planegg at Munich. See: http://www.neidenburg.de/ndbger.htm

An idea were perhaps to search for information about his brother on whom severeal books/biographies has been written. Ferdinand himself mentions Julius several times in his journal from Italy: http://www.archive.org/details/romanjournalsoff00gregiala Some of this material may contain information or pictures of Julius.

Another source may be Julius' own book from 1883 http://books.google.com/books?q=editions:OCLC56852058&id=6-kMHQAACAAJ
