Paul C
This bar has been traced and shown before, but at the time Poppe's service record was not available. As confirmation I pulled his file from the US Archive to verify all his awards. The bar as shown is his pre-1933 bar. The ribbons and award dates are: 1914 EK2 (16.9.14) Ernestine House Order 3rd class with swords (11.5.16) Hamburg Hanseatic (19.4.18) Bulgaria Military Service Order 5the class with swords (21.10.16) He also received the 1914 EK1 (28.7.16) and the black wound badge (20.7.18) Walter Poppe started WWII as an Oberst, was promoted to GM on 1.4.1942 and GL on 1.1.1943. He commanded three infantry divisions - 255, 364 and 77. He died in 1962.
