Chris Boonzaier Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I assume DSWA... anyone able to date it from the uniforms?
Claudius Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I assume DSWA... anyone able to date it from the uniforms? Somewhere in Afrika is right. I don't see anything that limits it to the DSWA. It could be DOA, Kamerun, etc. I believe those outback, wide-brimed hats with the right-side up were used in DSWA and DOA, if not all over Afrika. Looks like a pre-wwi publicity photo/postcard IMO. But Chris, a question...if you could look at your original. On the central medical officer taking the pulse of the stretcher-bound solder. Is that a ribbon coming out from the fourth button? or is that just a crease of the tunic?
Bernhard H.Holst Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Hello Chris: Just my two cents worth : The few wide-brimmed hats worn here seemingly do not show white piping which would indicate German East Africa and show on the photo. German South West blue piping or Cameroon red piping would probably be hard to tell on a black and white photo. (Togo only had police forces). BTW: casual dress is the uniform of the day(observe the slippers) Also the man on the stretcher hangs on to his headdress. Ah the feared sunstroke, what with spine pads worn in the British African areas and other contraptions. Bernhard H. Holst
Leutwein Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 For 100 % are those members of the Schutztruppe of GSWA! But to date it, could be very difficult or perhaps impossible. But I would assume between 1896 and 1908. Best wishes Karsten
