Ulsterman Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I am astonished. The Stahlhelm were disbanded/amalgamated in 1935/36 and his uniform- as an "SA reservist" was supposed to be retired by 1941. I know nothing about Finnish medals. Does it have to be from 1941? Could it have been a 1st class military award from 1918-1920?
christerd Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Hmm , this was strange There was not may 1 st class Liberty Crosses awarded in 1918 to Germans but here is one name ? Kapt Ernst von Hülsen , I will try to enclose a pic of him in 1918 tomorrow ( my Excel is giving a hard time right now) Christer
misiu Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 Hello, @Ulsterman: It can be also a cross from 1918, but...is the man not too young to possess such a cross and...his uniform confuses me...? @christerd: could be a possible hint...worth to go into deepest excel sheets...Thanks Detlef

misiu Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 hey vlorenz, i am interested in the liberty cross of your father...pls pm Detlef How do you view the picture? I'm sorry but I didn't see anything. My father is listed #18 on the list and I was hoping to see him. Help? anyone? Thanks VL
Arnim Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 It is my understanding that German soldiers assisted Finland, then a part of the Russian Empire, to break away in 1918. These liberty medals were established after Finland gained its independence. The Stahlhelm chap would have earned his medal in 1918, not after 1939.
