Claudio Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Dear forumites, I'd like to introduce you to my first bought medal bar. Only recently, thanks to some of military history enthusiast and researchers after 23 years being in my possession, it has been possible to attribute this medal bar to Generalmajor der Polizei Hans Daeuwel. JoeW Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) Claudio, the Haus Orden is superb. Is there any other provenance with the medal bar to connect to Dauwel beside the order of awards? With the Haus Order it narrows the field considerably and increases the probability to almost certainty. It is a beautiful medal bar. I believe there is a misprint in Andreas's book. According to the Police officer rank list of 1.9.41, Dauwel was promoted to Oberst d. Gendarmerie on 9.11.37. I might add that he was still an Oberst in fall 1941. He was accorded GenMaj rank on his retirement? He was married and had three children. He was a member of the NSDAP with membership number 3 266 350. It is possible that there is information concerning Dauwel on his NSDAP membership cards. On rare occasions, a photo is added to the membership card. Microfilms of these files are maintained at the US National Archives. I might suggest you contact Mike Constandy ( mjc@westmorelandresearch.org ). I have used his services in the past for research of personalities in the captured German records of WWII in the National Archives. If you choose to use him, mention to him the NSDAP entrance date and number to assist in his search. I will search my police magazine of 1941 and 1942 to see if I can find record of his retirement and rank appointment. Edited November 21, 2010 by JoeW
Claudio Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) Thanks Joe, for your comments. I got all the info from a fellow member who got it from the book mentioned under "quelle" (source in German). I think it might be the original wearer of the medal bar, as it was pointed out from other fellow members of this club. I know Mike... I'll think about it. Maybe I can dig out other interesting info on Daeuwel like it did it in another occasion. I believe he was promoted Major General at the end of his career, because he retired from active service on 1st of October 1942, but it's only mere speculation from my part. MJC Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) Hi Claudio, I pulled some documents from Daeuwel's NSDAP Partei Korrespondence (PK) and MOFK files at NARA and I hope this adds a small piece of the puzzle. I may have located an image of him as well, but I need to check a few things first. Mike Edited January 28, 2011 by Mike Constandy

Paul R Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Most beautiful bar with a lot of history. Did he get the KVK1 or higher for his service?
Claudio Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Many thanks, dear Mike, for your research! The information you shared with me and the forumites is greatly appreciated! I am looking forward to see another photo of Daeuwel... Ciao, Claudio
Paul R Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Thank you Mike! Your research has really brought this set to life.
MJC Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) Thanks Paul, but I think there was a lot of life in this set since long before I was born. I am simply the mailman, delivering a bit of moderately interesting fluff. This picture come from the NSDAP MFKL file at NARA, and while the card is definately Daeuwel's, I am not certain about the image. The cards are alphabetically filed and this image appears between two cards, Daeuwel's and another, so it could belong to either. But I do see several similarities between this image and the nice one that Claudio posted above. The ears, nose, and hairline look similar to me, but I'll leave any conclusions to others. Cheers. JoeW Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Ear flaps set for take-off! Very nice info to complete the set Michael. You do marvelous work. It surely appears to be him, especially comparing the nose, cheek bone and mouth. Given the title of Generalmajor to sweeten the retirement benefits a bit.
