censlenov Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 OHHHH Paddy...... The reason you've never seen a silver MID before is because it isn't an MID MID's for ww2 were a single oak leaf on the 39-45 war medal ribbon. What you have there is a Kings commendation for brave conduct. It was instituted in 1943 for award to civilians who had received a "Commendation for Brave Conduct". Originally it was a gold coloured plastic badge with a red background consisting of an oval laurel wreath with an upraised sword in it and a crown above. In the centre is a panel with "FOR BRAVE CONDUCT". This badge was later replaced by a silver laurel spray to be worn on the Defence Medal's ribbon (or directly on the recipient's coat if he had not qualified for the medal). Nice find. Cheers Chris
Thomas Symmonds Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Hello Gentlemen - I unfortunately do not own one of these, but I believe that this is the badge that Chris is refering to ... I agree - a very nice find regards Thomas

FrontlineAntiques Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 What's that in Sterling? I have seen them between £35 and £60 in the past. Always wondered why they made them in plastic and not metal...as although they look good they feel really cheap in plastic. Dan
