TheKnight Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Hi All, Looking for help wih this badge. It looks authentic although somewhat worn or damaged on one set of leaves. Is it a copy or a bad original that was disgarded Any views would be apreciated. I Think its an early version pre war of a pilot badge. Might be known as an air crew badge
Matthew Macleod Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 here is a pic of back If memory serves there are 6 documented originals worldwide, made by Juncker for only a few months. Originals are very rare and very expensive. The above badge is a copy.

TheKnight Posted January 1, 2011 Author Posted January 1, 2011 Thanks Mathew for your help Just wondered how many were actually awarded. I know goring wore one I would of thought that it was a broad award or badge which included more than just pilots and therefore there would have been lots. The reason i ask how you are sure it is a copy is because there is a obvious flaw in the leaves on the left. Therefore i wondered if it could be a badly cast original or is there something else that makes it stand out as a copy
Harrier Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 What value would an original make what is the obvious signs that this one is fake An original would be worth $15000 - $20000, and probably more. On the copy, the details just aren't there and the pin/hinge/catch set-up is the type used on 1957 (and later) badges.
Tom D. Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Hi Knight, I agree with the others, a reproduction made in the 1960s or 70 based on that reverse hardware. Tom
Matthew Macleod Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Last one I've seen come up for sale had a price tag of $60.000 Euros. cheers Matt
