Chris Boonzaier Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Was there some kind of rule when it came to officers spikes? I notice my prussian spike is a few cm longer than my saxon spike. Is it dependent from which state? or shorter officers order longer spikes to look bigger? Thanks cHRIS
KIR Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Chris, I'm not sure, but I think you mean the (longer) spike for an Adjutant !? Best regards, Jens
Robin Lumsden Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 The bigger the bankbook, the bigger the spike!
joerookery Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 13cm high! There were specified sizes however, it became a fashion statement in private purchase helmets to have a longer spike. In general newer helmets have longer spikes then the ones in the late 1800s. Saxony was by far the worst offender of this. There were several efforts on the part of the war Ministry to get this back under control. But as Robin said you could buy anything. ps1016 by joerookery, on Flickr
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Here is what I mean... although the cover of the saxon does not fit well on the longer prussian spike. best Chris
Robin Lumsden Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Here's my 'big Braunschweiger'. You know what boys are like. The only time I heard two men arguing about whose was the smallest was when they were boasting about their new mobile 'phones.
